After fifteen years of his service since not long after World War II at a trading company in Kobe, Kunihiko Arano, set out to launch an enterprise focusing on delivering industrial goods to humanitarian efforts. In in 1967, K. Arano and Co. Ltd. was established in Nihonbashi, at the very heart of Tokyo.
Years of struggle ensued until the company could build solid relations with its key client, the United Nations, and at the same time build its supply chain with major name suppliers such as Isuzu, Suzuki, and Bridgestone, in the midst of post-war economic recovery of Japan. With the now legendary growth of post-war Japanese economy and proliferation of development organizations worldwide led by the UN, K. Arano thrived, and continued to expand its scope of supply from motor vehicles, aerospace components, high-tech electronics components, as well as basic disaster relief goods such as tents, mosquito nets, and kerosene stoves.
In 2011, K. Arano & Co., Ltd. has entered a new era with death of Kunihiko Arano. In order to continue the one and only trading company in Japan specialising in humanitarian efforts, the employees of K. Arano stood up to reorganise the company and inherited all company assets and supplier relationships from the founding family to make a new start, under the leadership of Akemi Sunasawa, then the manager of the company's International Aid Division. Under the new management, K. Arano has shipped Aid material to various UN missions worldwide, and NGOs including landmine removal, medical emergency relief efforts.
